Nepal adopts technology neutrality in Telecom

After a long process finally Nepal adopts technology neutrality in Telecom. Nepal Telecommunication Authority, Nepalese telecom regulator has finally adopted the concept of technology neutrality in the newly amended policy, Radio Frequency Policy(Pricing and Distribution0 2073, allowing telecommunication service providers to start 4G service. It had been the talk of the town for more than a month. With this provision, service providers offering 3G service on 1800 Mhz band can upgrade to 4G and those offering 2G on 900 MHz can upgrade to 3G once they get permission for technology neutrality.Nepal adopts technology neutrality in Telecom - Doorsanchar

In the Radio Frequency Policy (Pricing and Distribution) 2069, 2100 Mhz bandwidth was deemed to be best for 3G service and 700Mhz, BWA 2300Mhz and 2600Mhz were thought to be best for 4G service operation. Now, with the change in technology 900Mhz and 1800 Mhz are considered highly effective for 3G and 4G service operation.

Technology neutrality is the regulatory principle which allows operators to provide service by using any available technology in the used frequency band.Technology neutrality enhances spectrum efficiency.
