Nepal Telecom launches video call service for people with hearing and speaking disablities

Nepal Telecom has initiated video call service to people with hearing and speaking disability at discounted rates. Nepal Telecom is the leading telecom service provider in the nation, as well as a publicly listed company with a majority of shares, own by the state.

The rate for Video call service that is available only within company’s network has been fixed at 50 paisa per minute excluding tax. SIM that cost Rs 90 with the talk time of Rs 50 can be obtained with video call facility by differently abled people if they present their valid identity cards.Likewise, people with disabilities and those injured in Peoples’ movement of 2062/63 will be provided with GSM prepaid SIM and CDMA RUIM card for free.  Those injured in people’s movement have to present a photo and photocopy of citizenship certificate along valid identity cards issued to them by government authorities.

People with physical disabilities can get free RUIM cards once they submit red identity cards issued to them by Women, Children and Social Welfare Ministry. The scheme of free SIM and RUIM cards will be available until the end of Magh, 2073.

Video call service meant for people with disabilities is part of Nepal Telecom’s CSR activity. Comparatively mobile service and other telecommunication services by Nepal Telecom is cheaper either GSM network or CDMA for calls, SMS as well as browsing mobile data. Telecom provides cheaper and accessible services to those people who are really in need with a free connection (distributing free RUM/SIM card) as it’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. Last time telecom offered free connection and cheaper call rates for rural health workers to enhance public connectivity to health workers.
