Be aware of spam and social engineering fraud

CaptureNcell, privately owned telecommunication service provider has requested its customers to be aware of fraudulent SMS and calls. The request comes after a customer reported about the receipt of SMS fraud in social media. The message reads ‘Dear Customers you have win 25,000,00 lakhs from Ncell. Congratulations to you and your family if you want to receive this prize please contact lottery department this number 00923015489886.’

Ncell says,’Our attention has been drawn by recent incidents of fraudulent activities in social platform mobile app like Viber, in which people abusing Ncell’s name and logo are sending fraud messages to our customers, claiming they have won Rs 2.5 million from Ncell and are asking them to call back to numbers starting with 0092 to receive the prizes.’

If customers receiving such message calls back, they call could lose their balance in bulk. Fraudsters send such message in bulk to mass subscribers persuading to call back.

Ncell has made clear it has not implemented any such prize schemes. It has also requested to gather information about Ncell and its new schemes only from its official website and social media channels. It further says the company shall not be responsible for any consequence resulted upon responding back to such fraud message.
